100 Days for a Green Campus

Launch of the “100 Days for a Green Campus” operation

On Thursday 24 January, Burgundy School of Business launched the “100 Days for a Green Campus” operation with a talk given by Marc Benner, Regional Delegate for EDF Bourgogne (French Electricity Board) on “Energy challenges: what choices are open to us in the face of climate warning, increased consumption, energy costs, etc.?”

This operation is an integral part of the School’s strategy, one of whose facets is societal responsibility.

Objectives of the "100 Days" operation

1. To change our everyday behaviour with regard to the environment by increasing awareness of the CSR procedure among students and the School’s staff
2. To obtain the Greenpeace quality label which rewards the campus which has reduced its climate “footprint” to a minimum, does not waste energy and rationalises its consumption

Activities during the "100 Days"

1. Awareness campaign
  • 1.1. Our students or “green ambassadors” will visit classrooms and offices in order to present the ongoing actions.
  • 1.2. A cycle of lectures given by specialists has been programmed through to 10 April:
    • 24 January: Marc Brenner, Regional Delegate of EDF Bourgogne: “Energy challenges: what choices are open to us in the face of climate warning, increased consumption, energy costs, etc.?”
    • 14 February: Pierre Sicsic, Environment Manager, HP France: "Eco-conception and energy efficiency"
    • 27 March: Nathalie Bartman, Director, Envie 21: "Social and solidarity economy"
    • 3 April: Jean-Marc Jancovici, climate specialist, will give a talk on the "Grenelle de l'environnement" (government-sponsored think-tank on the environment)
    • 10 April: Pascale Dumas, Vice-Chairman, HP France, will give a talk on the place of women in an ethical company
2. Energy saving

Burgundy School of Business is anxious to develop an energy-saving policy to be applied to its buildings and facilities. Our objective for 2008 is to reduce our electricity consumption by 10%. To this end, an preliminary energy and behavioural diagnosis has been conducted by students, with an assessment provided by the French Electricity Board (EDF). A complete technical diagnosis will be carried out in the course of the “100 Days” operation, spelling out the investments to be made if we are to reduce our electricity consumption. Our “green ambassadors” will introduce high-profile awareness initiatives throughout the “100 Days”.

3. Waste recovery and recycling
  • 3.1. Recovering and recycling paper
  • Burgundy School of Business is anxious to develop a policy for reducing paper consumption, and for encouraging the sorting and recycling of paper. As part of this policy, special dustbins for collecting and recycling paper have been installed throughout the campus. A paper cup and can sorting and recycling operation will also be launched.
  • 3.2. Recovery and recycling of computer waste
  • An operation for the recovery and recycling of computer waste at the School is scheduled for Saturday 29 April, in conjunction with the Greater Dijon Area, HP France and Envie 21. On this occasion, Envie 21 will organise a demonstration of the recycling of computer waste on the campus.
We would like to thank all members of Burgundy School of Business for their active participation in the “100 Days for a Green Campus” operation and thus for helping to establish daily and sustainable reflexes for a better life.
